I've waited my whole life for this
I learned to braid on my Ollie riding toy (similar to this one, but mine had wheels) when I was a kid.
I learned to French braid on my blonde, cornsilk haired Cabbage Patch Kid. I've got to say they've got nothing on the new American Girl Dolls silky locks! (My cousin, Elsie, got one for her birthday and she asked me to braid it's hair the other day.) I used to braid her hair all the time - for dance recitals, to go to the beach, or just because.
My younger sisters had their hair braided their fair share of times too.
But the hair I got the most practice on? My horses. I found this video that shows some of what it takes to get a horse ready for a show. I've never heard of the egg white trick. My Welsh pony's hair was coarse enough! I was 10 the first time I braided up my pony's hair for a show.
20+ years later I can now braid my daughter's hair. Funny thing is, that you can barely see the 
braids with all the curls going on around them. These last two pictures were taken 30 minutes after I put the braids in and even without a clip or rubber band, they stay in. Crazy.
Here's something else I bet you didn't know about me. I can French braid my own hair, but only the "outie" kind. I can't do the outie braid on anyone else.
When/how did you learn how to braid?

I can braid decent enough but not really got the hang of french braiding . . . which is a shame 'cause my girls have the BEST hair for it . . . smooth, silky, and straight. Maybe I should look it up on youtube or something. LOL

I learned to braid from my dad. My three sisters had long hair (I had a boy cut all the time... major tomboy). Every Saturday night after baths my dad would sit and braid the girls hair (so that it was kinky and looked nice for church on sunday). He took the time to teach me and we did it together. Honestly, I am unsure of who taught me to french braid but I love to do it, my little ladies hair has lots of waves but it stays in very nice (hairtie needed!!!). Can not french braid my own. Can braid little strands but don't wear it like that.

We used to do it to each other as kids, but I never had much hair so I usually got skipped. My daughter doesn't really have the hair for it either...or I don't have the skill. Like mine her hair is super fine and slippery. Hard to get to hold.
I had waist length hair as a kid and I hated when my mom would brush it because it hurt too much. I would lay on our couch on my back with my head over the armrest so my arms wouldn't get tired and I just taught myself!
I learned on my Barbies. I don't remember how I learned to French braid, it might have been on the school bus! ;-) I can't wait to braid Emma's hair!!!!! SisterBear's is soooo pretty. I know I've said it before, but I'd love to have curls like that!
