A full house
In two days my house will be filled with 17 children and about 25 adults. I'm so excited! For the second time we are inviting our friends and family over for a big sledding bash. The weather doesn't look like it's going to cooperate (high on Saturday of zero), but I'm not letting that get me down. Instead, I'm coming up with indoor winter games and activities for adults and children. I've got a few things up my sleeve, but am putting out a request to all you creative types for more ideas.
Does anyone know of any games or activities with a snow, ice, or winter theme you'd be willing to share? (Most kids are 2-5 years old)

I'm so excited! We leave tomorrow morning. Have you thought about bringing the snow indoors? You could put it in a big rubbermaid (one of those long shallow under the bed types). Familyfun.com might have some more ideas too. SEE YOU SOON!!!!

We made snowflakes out of coffee filters today. We folded them in 1/2, in 1/2 again and then cut little pieces out of them. Then we opened them up and used water color paints. I have 2-3 kids per paint set, and coffee filters are cheap! I posted a picture at the bottom of today's post.
Hello. I have been lurking on your blog. Sorry. I found you via MckMama, of course, and since we lived in MN for 4 years I especially enjoy your blog...
Here are a couple of snow/ice themed ideas.
1) You can freeze small plastic toys into "glaciers" (a cup filled with water) and the kids can bang on 'em with a rolling pin or whatever to get the toy out. They find this quite exhilarating...if you don't mind a racket. I really can't decide if this sounds like great fun/a nightmare, but a MN friend of mine does this with her kids and it's fun. (Of course, she can just leave a cup of water w/ a toy in it on her back step for 10 minutes, and it's ready...)
2) Make a "snowflake" by putting a glob of glue in the middle of a paper plate or coffee filter or piece of paper; arrange Q-tips in an asterisk pattern; apply glitter if desired. Surprisingly pretty.
3) A fun snack: fold a (smaller size) tortilla into 4ths. Cut some notches into each one with safety scissors. Unfold to make a snowflake. Can brush w/ butter and honey or sprinkle with cinnamon.

Man, I'd love to be able to help ya out, but I live in TEXAS and we're supposed to hit 81 degrees today. I know - you wanna slap me right now. BUT just remember this summer when we hit 103 degrees, you'll probably be sittin' happy in your nice breezy neck-o-the-woods. =0)

Hello! Thanks for commenting on my blog. We lived in St. Paul for 4 years while I was in grad school. We spent summer vacations canoeing in the BWCA and winter vacations (weirdly?) in Ely. It's beautiful country! Are you that far north?!!
