out with the old, in with the new

I hardly had a chance to be sad about leaving our old house. Remember that comment I made about throwing the contents of our refrigerator into a garbage bag? I wasn't kidding. There sits one of them to the left of the tree. A pitcher of orange juice also made it out the door with me.
I've had some hard days lately, but none was as stressful as May 1st, the day we turned over the keys to the home we owned for almost 6 years. The lady in charge of renting the house out for the new owner showed up early which put me in a tizzy as I dashed up and down the steps with the final loads. Earlier I had called my sister-in-law, Sharon, and asked if she could swing by and put some of our last minute things in her car. As it was the kids were packed in the van like sardines with our stuff. Material stuff. Stuff that makes our lives easier, but not necessarily more special. I thought I would be more emotional about leaving the home we brought our kids home too, but I didn't leave those memories behind. They came with me and will always be safe in my heart. The walls, the windows, the rooms that made up our house aren't what was important. I think that's why the kids are doing so well here. They feel just as loved here as they did in the other house. I'm sure they can sense that much of the stress is gone. We have a carefree life here. We live in a park for pete's sake. The kids play at the playgrounds almost every day, they get close up views of backhoe loaders, tanker trucks, gators, big diesel trucks, huge lawn mowers, the garbage truck pulls right up to the house.... It's a little boys dream and a mama's dream for that matter. What more could I ask for than to see my kids happy and thriving? In fact, they are loving it here so much they are up at 6am each morning to greet the day and begin a new adventure.
