Double Trouble

Over the past couple of months I've noticed that Julia is more attached to her paci than Sam ever was. We broke him of it the summer before Julia was born (at 21 months). It was that, or wait until he was three. We knew we couldn't (and shouldn't) tackle that task with a new baby in the house. We did it gradually: First we limited them to his crib. Then we took all but one away (He didn't know about the identical one we hid just in case we needed it). Two weeks later we cut the tip off of the only paci he had left. We put him in his crib like always. He picked up his paci, popped it in, pulled it right back out to investigate why it didn't work properly, and then proceeded to simultaneously yell "NOOO!!!!" while he chucked it across the room. We calmly gave it back to him, trying to hide our smiles, and ducked when he threw it out again. Two nights later he was back to sleeping 13 hours a night. End of story.

I don't think it's going to be as easy with Julia. She needs at least two in her bed every night so she can switch back and forth for while as she's falling asleep, and this week I caught her climbing the stairs while repeating, "pappi, pappi, pappi" over and over again. "What are you doing my dear, sweet baby girl?" I asked. "Pappi!" "Are you going to get your paci?" "UH-huh".

Houston, I think we have a problem.
